Urban Chickens is an organization that is dedicated to promoting backyard chickens in urban residential landscapes.
Our mission is to:
- Promote the many benefits of urban chickens
- Provide information about proper chicken care, habitat, and health
- Build a network of urban chicken keepers and related organizations
- Showcase the successes of chicken friendly cities
- Promote pro-chicken city ordinances and laws that fit the needs of all communities
- Help the urban chicken community share, learn, and grow
We've just hatched!
We just launched this website in March of 2008, and we are working hard to add more content and features. Be patient with us as we are building this site in our free time. Also, please help this community site grow- tell your friends about us, and actively participate (see below).

There are many options...
- Enjoy looking through this site and subscribe to the Urban Chicken Blog
- Be more active and join Urban Chickens by creating an account. Then you can contribute to the forum, upload pictures of your coops and chickens, and network with other urban chicken keepers.
- Be really active and contribute content such as tutorials, fact sheets, page content, etc. We are also looking for some guest bloggers as well as forum moderators. See the Participate page for more information.
