Garden defense: Build a chicken moat

Yes- the same line of defense that was used back in the day for castles, can be used to protect your garden. This style of moat however does not involve a protective barrier of water, but rather a protective barrier of chickens.

In an article over on Mother Earth News, Gene Gerue, explains the beauty of this simple invention:

"My moat is simply a strip of dry land, enclosed by two parallel fences, which surrounds my family's garden. Throughout the day, the hen patrol moves all around the garden (but never in it), munching on all those things hens love: weeds, seeds, worms, tiny pieces of stones and (best of all) bugs."

Be sure to check out the full article and accompanying figures. Too bad my garden and coop are already established, as I would love to have this design.
